A BENCH FOR ALL REASONS
There will be many artisans and those from the world of crafts who engage in using their hands and minds to construct and fabricate Items of Ingenuity, utility and yes, raw beauty too, who will be delighted to learn that a “bench for all reasons” is now available for purchase.
This exquisitely functional fundamental utility, conceived by Philip Marcou is designed to sit on an existing platform or workbench and is secured in place by an ingeniously simple method of holding it in its place.
The bench itself is raised on sturdy legs by 250 mm from the surface which permits easy access to the underside of the working surface and therefore quick adjustment of hold -downs – there are twenty-two 20 mm dog holes across the working top for this – or other purpose. A conventional quick release vice is positioned at the end of the bench and will suit those who are left handed too, simply by turning the bench through 180 degrees.
Construction is of Muninga (Pterocarpus angolensis) a Southern African hardwood which has a deceptively soft feel but it is extremely durable and which conveys a feeling of permanence and mass. The supporting legs are secured by bolts into the carcass itself meaning that the entire assembly is solid, giving confidence to the user that the piece being shaped or fabricated will not move.
The bench provides all around access and permits close eye contact with the workpiece thus permitting fastidious attention to detail and for those who demand absolute control over their work. The workbench is easily stowed on its end or side thus using up only a small amount of valuable workplace space.
Although this device is not cheap it will last a lifetime, even the most well-equipped studio or workshop will be incomplete without one of these beautifully furnished benches.
Bench dimensions:
*The bench vice is fitted with silver chrome dome nuts different from the ones shown in the pictures (brass dome nuts can be supplied and sold separately on request).
*Holdfasts are not included and they can be sold separately.
*The colour and grain of the benches in stock could differ from the one shown in the pictures.
