Description
Most users find the capabilities of Shapton's DGLP astonishing.
The sharpest cut is born when two steel planes cross at an acute angle.
Yet every time a blade is sharpened on a sharpening stone, the stone itself changes shape, so over time, the planes at the blade's edge also change.
That is why it is so important to keep the sharpening stone itself flat. Apply the DGLP, and you will enjoy sharpening as never before.
The DGLP uses glass for its base, and this is what produces such high precision on the resulting sharpening stone plane.
The world's first and one of the best and most precise Lapping plates on the planet.
Designed for grits 500 and above.

How to use your DGLP:

The stones you are intending to lap should be immersed in water for 2 to 3 minutes before starting work on them. As a guide, use a pencil to draw a grid on the stone surface to be flattened. Place the plate somewhere stable and splash it with water. To lap a stone, lay it on the lapping plate and slowly slide it forwards and backwards, then diagonally, using the whole surface evenly.

Any time slurry accumulates in the grooves, rinse it off then resume lapping. You can also lap a stone by laying the lapping plate on the stone. Once the pencil lines are completely means the stone is flat. You can also lap the edges in 45 degrees to produce a micro chamfer to avoid chipping the stones when sharpening knives for example. Once you have finished lapping, rinse off any slurry promptly before putting the plate into storage. We also recommend using a brush at this time. The whole process should take 40-50 seconds if you lap your stones everytime after every sharpening session.

Precautions:

The DGLP is capable of lapping stones up to 30 microns (#500 grit and above)

The DGLP should not be used on rougher or coarser stones. This will reduce it usable life.

Never sprinkle abrasive agents or other powders between the stone and the DGLP.

Treat the DGLP carefully, as its resistance to shocks is limited.

The DGLP should only e used for lapping normal stones.

The DGLP should not be used to scrape metals or other materials.
